My two brothers, Mike and Bob Mayne are among the six being held unjustly in a Honduras jail. Any help to secure my brothers release would be greatly appreciated; they are 100% innocent of the charges! Anyone who knows my brothers will agree they are the most thoughtful, kind-hearted people you could ever meet.
Being armed at sea is common sense with piracy being prevalent and
especially with Central America having the highest…

A MAP member reports having run into a homeless-looking man with an American accent in Dubai today. Here's the description:
"He was barefooted and filthy and looked like he was ready to do something drastic. Let me stress that homeless caucasian people DO NOT exist in the UAE, somebody must be missing this guy.... He was in his 20s with blond hair and a beard, with I think blue eyes but not too sure and probably around 6ft. I noticed he had a very long (and filthy)…

Last week, a U.S. citizen (whose name I will not mention out of respect for his family) pulled an idiotic stunt on the island of Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras. The vacationer, very intoxicated, got into an argument with his girlfriend and stormed out into the night without cash or his cellphone and didn't return.
You may know Roatan from posts here as a place that is aggressively marketed as a safe, inexpensive destination to vacation and retire.…

One of my biggest gripes for years now has been the lack of a truly critical travel media that examines the industry it purports to cover with an eye toward more than the prettiest locales and the best deals. For an industry that rivals energy and agriculture in terms of economic clout, travel/tourism receives surprisingly little media scrutiny. In this article, maritime attorney Jim Walker articulates some of the same frustrations.…
