Please Help a MAP Member Bring Her Mom Home

A physically abused, developmentally disabled American woman is being held against her will in Mexico. She wants to come home but doesn't know where she is. The State Department won't even try to help her family bring her home. You can help.

Missing Americans Project member Samantha Smith has been trying to find her mom, Sheila, a developmentally disabled adult who is in Mexico in the hands of a man who has a history of abusing her. Sam has managed to get into contact with Sheila, who is terrified and wants to come home but doesn't know where she is ("Somewhere in the middle of nowhere" is all she can tell Sam).

The State Department says there is nothing they can do, and her senators (Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul of Kentucky) are making no efforts to get her the help she needs (one of Paul's aides literally laughed at and hung up on her).

Those of you who have been through this with me before know what we need: phone calls to Paul (202-224-4343) and McConnell (502-582-6304) to ask them to PLEASE come to the aid of this American family in need. Please don't let your personal politics color your outreach, and please be polite and respectful. This is an opportunity to exert leverage on behalf of a MAP family, not to rant.

Sam needs you to convey to her senators this simple message: "A physically abused, developmentally disabled American woman is being held against her will in Mexico and her family needs the help of the U.S. State Department to help bring her home -- please use your influence to get the U.S. Embassy in Mexico to work with Samantha Smith to bring her Mom home."
