What we know..

Owns aquarium/pet store in Matamoros, MX, and disappeared during the battles between the Mexican military and the Gulf Cartels and Zetas in that city, beginning on Nov.5, 2010. US Consulate has only ascertained that he is not in any hospital in that city or surrounding cities, and nothing more. They say they are not able to do any searching themselves but must rely on the Mexican authorities.

Today's paper carries yet another story about the ongoing violence in Matamoros...

Will it never end?

And you should raise the whole "high-priority" issue - how do they decide which missing persons are high-priority or not?

Adriana: Forget sending them a letter. Call the reporter who interviewed you and let him know about this. Express it as an indication of how out of touch the State Department is when it comes to how many Americans are missing -- ie., the scale of the problem. If he wants to be able to put it in a larger context, I have similar stories about the U.S. embassy in Honduras. I will be happy to talk with him. Hopefully the reporter will reach out to the Embassy for a comment and embarrass them.

Renee: Bring this to Farrah's attention. I'll bet she'd do a piece on how hard it is to know how many people are actually missing, how little attention State pays to such "minor" details. I have a similar story from Honduras. She's got a local hook for the larger story - it's a great opportunity.
