What we know..

Owns aquarium/pet store in Matamoros, MX, and disappeared during the battles between the Mexican military and the Gulf Cartels and Zetas in that city, beginning on Nov.5, 2010. US Consulate has only ascertained that he is not in any hospital in that city or surrounding cities, and nothing more. They say they are not able to do any searching themselves but must rely on the Mexican authorities.

Thanks, Lucy. That's great to hear. Really important to press and press and press - it's the only way anything gets done.

Deb, you and John are in our prayers. Let me know if there's anything we can do to help make this time more bearable.

This is a hard time of the year for a lot of people. And this year for me is just almost unbearable with the thoughts of not seeing John for Christmas. If it was not for people like this group who care I dont know that I could get thru it. Thank you all so much for your help and support.

Jeff, I wrote the article and Renee has been a friend of mine for many years.  We usually see each other twice/week.  The article in the South Texas Oracle got lots of hits so it was most likely picked up somewhere, although I don't have confirmation on that.  I sent it out as a press release to all the local papers, TV stations and radio stations.  The editor of that paper is in Veracruz right now.  She translated the article and sent it to several blogs in Mexico.  Those people also care about John.  We're trying to get exposure, but I agree that we also need to all be calling and/or writing to Senators Cornyn and Hutchison.

Renee, Deb: sorry to be a pest, but have you pestered and gotten your friends/family to pester your senators? You need someone "who matters" advocating for you, and they wont until they think voters care.

Have you kept a relationship with the reporter who wrote the story? Have you reached out to the Wall Street Journal reporter I sent you the e-mail for? I think his name is Nick Casey?

We still need the Mexican Police to address two issues. They need to go to the John's pet store/apartment and see who is running it, if anyone. The store is a significant investment there and would be worth something if it is maintained. I know at least one person had access to it besides John. There are also his computers, a HP 4-in-one copier, and several other valuable items. They need to compel his ex-wife to allow them to talk to his daughter. He left home to take her to the hospital for her asthma.... it would help if we knew he did take her, or if he never showed up to take her, to the hospital.

Very good job Renee

Ok... I posted: "When John moved to Matamoros, it was NOT a war zone. It was a beautiful little city on the Rio Grande. John chooses to live in Matamoros because he can make a honest living with his own efforts in a small business there which he could not afford to run in the US. Many Americans live in Mexico because the cost of living is so low. He chooses to live there to be an involved father in his children's lives. To live in the US when his children are in Matamoros would be unreasonable. It often takes several hours to cross the bridges there and should an emergency arise, he might not get there in time if he were living in the US."

Renee: I would urge you to comment back - not in a retaliatory way but to educate. This does 2 things: It puts the rational voice on our side, and it drives the knuckleheaded comments further down and farther out of sight. I will do something tonight in that vein.
