Remembering Ronald Scheepstra

Ronald Scheepstra went missing April 11th 2009 in Xcalak, Mexico. This is a place to remember Ron and to share information regarding his life and disappearance.
  • Jeff Dunsavage

Though I never met Ron, I feel a particular bond. Maybe it's the fishing connection... We won't stop looking for answers, Cindy.

    Jeff
  • Cynthia Scheepstra

I feel like I a trying to run knee deep in mud. I can't get a response from anyone anymore...except NO from Allstate Life Insurance. More and more people are being murdered and going missing in Mexico and I feel like I am screaming to deaf ears....
  • Jeff Dunsavage

Cindy, I forget - did you ever manage to connect with the state insurance commissioner? Another avenue might be -- does your local TV station have a consumer advocate? We have a lot of them here, Help Me Harry and Shame on You...reporters who go after companies that screw the little guy.
  • Cynthia Scheepstra

I am in a pile of red tape per my attorney. The Mexican PGR has not released a copy of their investigation to me despite numerous requests. I can't submit my request for a presumption of death to the State Dept. with out it, since that is one of the required documents. I have been totally forgotten. I only get a response from the USConsulate, or Congressmen or Senators when I contact them. My attorney does not even contact me anymore. 2 years out,Ron is just another statistic
  • Renee Vorbach

I am so sorry... it's bad enough to have him missing.... but then to have the cavalier attitude that so many of us are now getting is just unbearable.... I don't know what it is going to take to change it either.... We are coming up on six months without John, birthdays and Christmas and soon Mother's day.... I can't imagine two years of what you have been going through... you are in our prayers.....
  • Cynthia Scheepstra

Thank you Renee...You and John's family are in mine as well.

We are not alone....it just feels that way sometimes. You stay strong for John.

  • Jeff Dunsavage

Cindy - Let's talk about this. We need to get your senators into the game on this ... I've been putting together the pieces of a national campaign, and Texas is going to be an essential part of it. Who is telling you the Mexican PRG report is a "required document" for the decision about a finding? That's B.S. -- would that there was such an explicit "requirement" in the regulatory language. It's a hunk of Swiss cheese that can be read just about any way one cares to.

Have you been in touch with Tiffany Hartley at all? I think the two of you should talk, for moral and practical support.

Let me know when is a good time for you to talk?

  • Cynthia Scheepstra

I met with my attorney this week and she is preparing to send the packet to the State Dept. requesting a Presumption of Death.I have mixed feeling about this. I feel like I am failing Ron in some way by doing this. I know he would want me take steps to secure my future, but I still feel guilty and sad. Ron's birthday is next week on June 8th. This will be the 3rd birthday passed without Ron.While I don't think I will ever have closure regarding Ron's dissapearance, maybe this will help me to move forward and not feel so much in a state of limbo. When this first happened 2 years ago, I was told it was a rare occurance...today, it is anything but. Just read about the people that have gone missing in the past 2 years. Why won't our government help us?
  • Renee Vorbach

Oh, Cindy... I am so sorry, and I will keep you and your family in my prayers... it's so sad that the government we support cannot support us in our need..... Until some celebrity or some senator's spouse or child goes missing, our missing loved ones will be unknown and unacknowledged by the Powers That Be.
  • Jeff Dunsavage

Cindy: You are absolutely NOT failing Ron. Ron made arrangements like life insurance to protect you in case he couldn't be there. He never considered this particular circumstance or he would have prepared for it. Wherever he is, he wants you to be provided for. Please document the presumption of death process so we can help others learn from our experiences. And it might help if we could get you on TV to talk about your struggles and the underlying issues. People need to know about this and get angry or our government will never do anything to change the way these cases are (not) handled. I'll say a special prayer for you and Ron on the 8th. Stay strong.
  • Sherry Rush

    Cindy,

I am with Jeff. You and Ronald both made arrangements in case one of you were not there. This is what couples do. Love you and thinking about you and Ronald everyday.

  • Cynthia Scheepstra

I feel so alone...I miss my husband.
  • Renee Vorbach

I understand what you are going through, that gut-wrenching feeling of not-knowing, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.... we all feel your pain... I wish I could do something to help ease it... for now, I will just send my love and support!!
  • Jeff Dunsavage

You're not alone, Cindy. We're all in your corner.
  • Sherry Rush

I know you do Cindy. We all miss him too. We are here for you if you need to talk. Love you bunches!
  • Cynthia Scheepstra

I am currently in The Netherlands, visiting Ron's family. We don't get to see each other very often, and I am so glad I could be here for my sister in law's 50th birthday celebration. It is bittersweet of course, since Ron is not here.

  • Renee Vorbach

What a lovely time to visit Europe and The Netherlands... I'm glad you can be there for the celebration.. it should bring comfort to you all... *hugs*

  • Cynthia Scheepstra

It is official, The US State Dept denied my request for a Presumption Of Death on Ronald. In the state of Texas, I have to wait the full 7 years. After that, I am not sure what will happen. They actually recommended I go through the Mexican legal system. Mind you, Mexico won't even release a copy of their "Investigation" to me or to the US Consulate despite numerous official requests. I have no money to pay a Mexican attorney....who would just probably just take the money and run...I am beyond frustrated and disgusted.....and sad.

  • Renee Vorbach

I'm so sorry Cynthia.. you have been through so much and waited so long for resolution. Maybe Jeff's interview on NightLine will open some doors for you and the other families still waiting.... *hugs*

  • Cynthia Scheepstra

Thanks, Renee...I know you are still hurting too...If anybody can get the attention we ...need, it will be Jeff...God Bless him!..Hugs back to you!

  • Sherry Rush

I am so sorry Cindy. God has brought you this far. He will get you through this too.
    We love you.
  • Sherry Rush

When is he going to be on Nightline?
  • Adriana Aviles Allen

oh man , we are going thru the same thing been waiting and waiting but we have no response

  • KL

Saw Cynthia's message for New Years and this prompted me to send a Friend Request. See my background under members section, but this is not a solicitation for any kind of business. Just a friendly Hallo.

I have friends who are avid fishermen and often traveled to Belize. They had an unusual incident just a few years ago, probably not much earlier than Rons disappearance. Same general timeframe. They fell victim to pirates who stole their boat and all their fishing gear out of Belize. They were fortunate to survive ... Does not always happen this way. A lot of tourists to Belize are not aware that this stuff goes on ... But it is ongoing and does happen. Just does not hit the media.

Anyway, prayers and best wishes to all of you,
    Pete (Member KL).
  • Cynthia Scheepstra

    Hello Pete (KL)

Thank you for joining Ron's group and for your message to me. I read your profile and about the business you are involved in. God bless you for the missing people you have brought home. That senario  has been a fantasy of mine since Ron disappeared. I had no idea that there really was such a thing possible. There is so much corruption and crime in the Caribbean and Central America that does not make it to main stream news. I try to raise awareness at every opportunity, but people just don't seem to get it.

Thank you again and hope to hear from you again--Cindy
