U.S. Marine Vet Who Served in Iraq Believed Abducted in MX

A search is under way for a Marine reservist veteran once based in Galveston who disappeared in Mexico on May 15.

The State Department is leading the search for Armando Torres, who crossed into Mexico near Brownsville with his father and uncle, KPRC-TV reported.

Authorities said he was kidnapped along with his two relatives, the TV station reported.

FBI spokeswoman Shauna Dunlap would neither confirm nor deny the agency is involved in the search for Torres, 27, a husband and father of two who deployed to Iraq in 2009. She referred calls to the U.S. Department of State.

The State Department issued a statement to KPRC-TV: "We are aware of reports of that a U.S. citizen has been kidnapped in Mexico. The U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros is working with Mexican authorities to obtain more information."

No other details were available.
