Despite these and similar stories throughout the vacation "paradises" in the developing world,  The U.S. State Department of State still doesn't track or report on such incidents, despite the agency's empty insistence that "the safety of U.S. citizens is our Number 1 priority".

If you are thinking about traveling to the Dominican Republic, you might want to check out domincanwatchdog.org. While my sources tell me the site is about 7 months out of date, it provides cautionary news well worth paying attention to.
