Looking for Americans Lost in Foreign Countries

Families of Americans who disappear in foreign countries should not have to invent the wheel. Unfortunately, this is what too often happens: people in deep distress have to learn how to run an international search and rescue operation, raise funds, cultivate relationships with nongovernmental organizations, and work with the media -- all within hours of learning their loved one is missing. The absence of clear standard operating procedures within and among U.S. embassies and a lack of State Department support leads to an unconscionable waste of time when time is of the essence.

The Missing Americans Project is intended to:

* Build awareness of the problems of Americans missing in foreign countries;
* Increase the accountability and transparency of U.S. State Department processes where missing Americans are concerned.
* Lobby for legal and policy changes where necessary.
* Develop a global rapid-response network that is not subject to the same bureaucratic wrangling as the U.S. State Department is.
* Advocate for the interests of the families of missing Americans.

Interview With Wife of Derrick Keller, U.S. Navy Vet Being Held in Thailand

Below is an interview I recently conducted with Tanya Keller, wife of Derrick Keller, a U.S. citizen and Navy veteran who has spent nearly a year in a Thai prison. His crime? Performing in a promotional video for a company that turned out to be an international Ponzi scheme.

Please watch and share widely. This is not only important for getting the Kellers the help they need -- it also contains important information for anyone who travels as to how easy it is to get incarcerated abroad for literally doing nothing wrong.

Missing NJ Couple's Jet Ski Reportedly Found in Guadeloupe

Authorities recovered a jet ski over the weekend bearing the same registration number as the one an American couple was riding before they went missing in Barbados last month. French Navy officers found the missing jet ski hundreds of miles away in Guadeloupe on Saturday, nearly two weeks after Magdalena Devil and Oscar Suarez, of New Jersey, vanished at sea, authorities said.

There were no signs of the missing couple.

The pair disappeared on June 24 after renting a jet ski at Holetown Beach on the western coast of Barbados, authorities said.
