Arrest Made in Murder of David Hartley, Falcon Lake Jetski Victim

Days after the Mexican Navy announced it detained an alleged leader of the Zetas drug cartel who is suspected in the 2010 killing of American David Hartley on a lake near the U.S.-Mexico border, the victim’s wife said she's hopeful the suspect could provide answers to what happened to her husband.

"Maybe he knows where David’s remains are, or where he's located," Tiffany Hartley, the victim's widow, said.

As Cartels Maintain Stronghold, Mexican Police Chief Taken Near Christmas Still Missing

Erika Gandara, police chief of Guadalupe, Mexico, has not been seen or heard from since being abducted two days before Christmas. Her predecessor was murdered and decapitated, his head was found in an ice chest. Gandara, 28, a single woman with no children, was the only applicant for the job and its salary of $580 per month.

 

"We have no police, no security, no electricity, no water, nothing," said one 25-year-old woman who was afraid to give her name.…

15 bodies found in Acapulco, Mexico

Fifteen bodies, all but one of them decapitated, were found early on Saturday in the Pacific resort city of Acapulco, local media reported. The victims, all male, were discovered at dawn near a shopping mall along with several, threatening hand-written messages that are typically left as a calling card by drug cartels.The tourist destination of Acapulco has been plagued in recent years with drug violence as the country's cartels fight for drug transport routes.… Continue

Gunmen in Mexico Drug War Getting Younger

Mexican police on Friday detained a minor accused of working as a gunman for a drug cartel after videos and photos surfaced online of fresh-faced boys mugging for the camera with guns and corpses. One video, briefly posted on YouTube, showed a youth, apparently in his teens, confessing to working for a branch of the Beltran Leyva cartel. Bloomberg: Largest U.S. Banks Help Fund Mexican Drug Activity
