Happy Ending! Missing Travelers Arrived Safely in Roatan

Our two New York teachers who fell out of contact with their families after leaving Guatemala have arrived safely in Roatan, Honduras. Thanks to everyone who went on alert for us...given the absence of legal and investigative resources in the region, it is never too early to assume the worst and work toward the best.

Mayoral Candidate Shot in Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY – A candidate for mayor of the Guatemalan city of San Jose Pinula was wounded by unidentified gunmen, a member of his campaign team said. Luis Marroquin, who belongs to the opposition Lider party and had received death threats, was shot on Saturday while driving in San Jose Pinula, Congressman Leonardo Camey told reporters. Prosecutors Murdered in Honduras & Guatemala: U.N. Concerned

U.S. Teen Murdered by Hotel Security Guard in Costa Rica

 

A 34-year-old hotel security guard at La Cangreja Lodge in La Fortuna, San Carlos, in north-central Costa Rica, shot and killed a high school student from Kansas early Thursday. Justin Johnston, 16, a student from McLouth High School, in McLouth, Kansas, in the U.S, died soon after he was shot.

Mexico Town Searches for Missing, Seeks Answers

The Durango Human Rights Commission received 35 reports of disappearances in 2009 and 70 in 2010. Unlike in other regions of Mexico, there are no non-governmental groups investigating those cases and dozens more which were not reported officially.
