I just stumbled upon this BBC article about the maddening wait the family of Alex Humphrey, missing in Panama since August 2009, has had to endure to find out if a badly burned body found last year is Alex.

Agents at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge found the .30 caliber browning machine gun on the backseat of a Hummer H3 headed to Reynosa, Mexico, last Friday and arrested the 21-year-old driver from Pharr, Texas, the Customs and Border Protection agency said in a news release. Erika Gandara, police chief of Guadalupe, Mexico, has not been seen or heard from since being abducted two days before Christmas. Not a lot of information yet. I hate to be crass, and of course I am praying for Mr. Salkind and his loved ones, but I can't help wondering if a little bit of Hollywood appeal might FINALLY generate some interest in the topic of Americans and others missing in Central America and the Caribbean.
